Training

In order to provide our clients with a workforce of multi-skilled engineers who receive on-going training in all areas of their work.

All of our engineers are registered with the ‘Engineering Services SKILLcard Scheme’ where their skills and competences are registered. A 'skills passport' is issued to all members, which is valid for five years.

All engineers employed by Cold Service must pass the necessary health and safety test, which is a strict requirement for every SKILLcard application.

Apprentices

Cold Service offers apprenticeships, which are a combination of on-the-job training and classroom based studies.  An apprenticeship allows you to gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst in paid employment.

For successful completion of an apprenticeship with Cold Service, individuals work to achieve NVQs, Key Skills/ Core Skills and a Technical Certificate.

For many of our apprentices we use a well established training provider in Building Services Engineering called BEST. They are the leading specialist training provider for the recruitment and training of apprentices in the heating and ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and plumbing industries.

BEST provides a high quality, helpful service offering support and assistance in placing learners with us.  They arrange suitable courses for our apprentices, co-ordinate college and site work, monitor progress by acting as mentors and focus on our apprentices' achievements, whilst also working closely with us throughout the apprenticeships.

Our apprentices currently undertake their college education at:

  • Eastleigh College, Southampton
  • The Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education
  • City of Bath College
